The design of durable structures requires a precise knowledge of the evolution of the material properties of the materials over many years. The reliable prediction of their durability requires a sound knowledge of the various degradation mechanisms that will affect the structures over their life time, and the use of simulation tools. This paper presents a review of the different mechanisms involved in the durability of cement-based materials submitted to calcium leaching. A predictive model is introduced to simulate the long-term mechanical behaviour of concrete structures. The paper concludes on research needs and opportunities.
