An experimental investigation has been undertaken of an axisymmetric scramjet configuration in The University of Queensland's T4 shock tube. The experiments were conducted at angles of attack ranging from 0 to 4.2 degrees and the experimental dynamic pressure was varied from 75 to 150 kPa with a total enthalpy corresponding to a flight Mach Number of 8. Hydrogen fuel was injected into the scramjet at a nominal equivalence ratio of 0.5. Surface pressure measurements were recorded and indicate significant combustion heat release utilising the concept of radical farming. An effective maximum angle of attack due to engine un-start is also observed. A detailed computational study was undertaken to compare with the experimental results at zero degrees angle-of-attack. Excellent agreement has been obtained for both fuel-off and fuel-on computations demonstrating the increasing value of CFD as an engineering tool for the radical farming class of scramjet.
