Three-Layer Control of an Optical Delay Line

For the processing of star light optical delay lines are used, in order to superimpose the light of different telescopes. They contain a highly precise and relatively fast translation and positioning system for a retroreflector. The solution ofthis problem is possible by a three-layer motion with co-ordinated drives. The three motion layers differ in the operational range, resolution and dynamics. By means of state feedback the drives are so co-ordinated, that the desired dynamic behaviour ofthe whole system under existing conditions of the operational ranges in the three layers can be reached. Simulation results show the solvability of this positioning and tracking problem and the influences of control inputs and disturbances. The obtainedresults are discussed.
