Applications of non-equilibrium low-temperature plasmas for modification of polysaccharide surfaces were studied experimentally, powders, films, sponges made of chitosan, sodium alginate, and microcrystal cellulose being used as original substrates. Three different plasma-assisted techniques were developed: a) Surface modification in Electron-Beam Plasma, generated by the injection of the electron beam into dense gaseous media. b) Surface activation in Hybrid Plasma, produced by the electron beam injection into RF gas-discharge plasma. c) Deposition of organic and inorganic vapors activated by the electron beam on the surface modified in Hybrid Plasma. The plasmachemical treatment resulted in the changes of the surfaces morphology, improvement of hydrophilicity, and grafting of chemically active groups. Plasma-modified materials suppressed the bleeding more than ten times with respect to the untreated surfaces. Coatings consisted of acetylsalicylic acid, carbon, and sulfur were deposited on the polysaccharide powders and sponges.
