A multibody simulation is used for simulation of a front-end mounted mower and its adaptability to the soil surface. It is necessary to develop models of the tractor, mower and the profile of the soil surface. Field testing with artifical and natural obstacles is necessary to validate the models. Data from field testing and first simulations based on rigid body models are compared. In comparision, it shows that these first models are too simple. For better simulation results, parts with a flexible structure based on finite element modeling are imported into multibody models. With these kinds of models further investigation has to show what improvement for mower design is possible for lower stresses in the soil surface and for a better behaviour in case of collisions with obstacles.
