For the puropose of cladding design for a tower buliding, wind tunnel studies were conducted to determine the wind loads on glass cladding. The tower building is 156m high with cross section of square and two one-fourth circular in plan. The experiments were carried out in a modified aeronautical low-speed wind tunnel. A suitable atmospheric boundary layer was simulated, as well as the local surrounding buildings. The pressure distributions, including time-mean and fluctuating pressure on the suface of the tower building, were obtained under sixteen principal compass directions. Combined the results of wind tunnel tests with the local wind data, the more reasonable design pressure recommendation of both safety and economy on the cladding panel of the tower building were given. Discussions on applying of the Technical Code for Glass Curtain Wall Engineering (TCGCWE) (JGJ102-96, China), are also given.
