The Millau vaduct-Special wind studies for an exceptional structure

The Millau viaduct will be a multi span cable stayed bridge crossing a deep valley. This structure, that will be 340 m high, will be exposed to strong winds either during construction stage or in service. Due to the presence of the surrounding mountains, the actual wind on the site exhibits unusual characteristics. Therefore the CSTB laboratory, that was in charge of the wind studies, had to perform extended tests and measurements to characterize the bridge behaviour.
