This paper represents the comparison of the calculated and measured solidliquid interphase position of the direct-shill semi-continuous casting of 0.285 [m] diameter extrusion billets from 99.5percent pure aluminium. The steadystate thermal field problem relies on the one-phase physical model, realistic physical properties and process specific boundary conditions. It is solved by suing the recently developed dual reciprocity boundary element method which incorporates Laplace equation fundamental solution weighting and augmented thin plate splies. The interphase boundary position is measured through touching of the solid phase with the steel rods that moved in specially designed guide support, and through flooding of the sump of the billet with the liquid zinc that displaced the aluminium melt. The results of the computational model give excellent agreement with the measured data.
