WARSIM 2000 will become the U. S. Army's corps and division staff training simulation and will employ automated Command and Control (C2) in lower echelons. The C2 staff of each unit is modeled by a Simulated Command Organization (SCO). The SCO architecture is based on autonomous software agents and provides planning, execution control, and situation assessment. Hierarchical match and operator-state planning techniques develop and refine plans. Rule based inferencing is available to the agents. The agents within a SCO share a World Model-the combined memory of the C2 staff. A C2 behavior specification language has been developed to encode doctrine as data rather than as compiled code. Military missions and tasks (C2 behaviors) are described in Behavior Definition Frames (BDFs) which are interpreted during execution. Planning and execution timelines employing derivations of James Allen's temporal relations provide temporal graphs of behaviors in planning and execution.
