CONDITIONING OF LOW LEVEL R/W, SPENT SEALED SOURCES AND THEIR TRANSPORT AT THE INTERIM STORAGE BUILDING OF INSTITUTE OF NUCLEAR PHYSICS IN ALBANIA

In my paper, shortly have been described the main activities with radio-pharmaceuticals, radiochemical in research and medicine, as well as the sealed radiation sources used in industry. Our methods used for the conditioning of low-level wastes and spent solid sources are simple ones describe some aspects of low-level wastes and spent sources treatments. Solid radioactive wastes with low-level activity after accumulation, minimisation, segregation and measurements are burned or compressed in a simple compactor machine PGS-type. Spent radiation sources are placed into 200 L drum, are cemented and conditioned. Conditioned drums from the Radiation Protection Division in the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), which is the responsible institution for the management of radioactive wastes in my country, are loaded on the truck, after that are transported at the interim storage building of Institute of Nuclear Physics in Tirana. We are working to construct a new Spent Solid Sources (SSSF) within the territory of INP. It is an Albanian Government's responsibility, based on the Law No. 8025, date 25.11.1995, to finance the activities concerned with the management of radioactive wastes generated from the users of ionizing radiation sources in the scientific researches, medical and industrial applications.
