In recent years, several kinds of polymer-hydroxyapatite composites have been developed as bone substitute materials. The purpose of making such composites is to reinforce the polymer and imporve the bone bonding properties of the materials, since it has been found that adding hydroxyapatite (HA) into a polymer matrix may turn an initially non-bioactive polymer into a bone bounding composite, and might simulataneously improve the mechanical properties, especially the elastic modulus and hardness.
