The Matapedia region covers a 60km * 70km area in the western part of the Gaspe Peninsula in the Quebec Appalachians. The area is divided into three NE-trending tectonostratigraphic domains separated by two major fault zones: Sainte-Florence and Restigouche. The northern domain is comprised of three rock assemblages: (1) the Silurian-lowermost Devonian siliciclastic/carbonate rocks of the Chaleurs Group; (2) the mixed Lower Devonian siliciclastic and fine-grained carbonate of the Upper Gaspe Limestones; (3) the Lower to Middle Devonian coarse-grained terrigenous rocks of the Gaspe Sandstones. The central domain between the two faults is made up of various terrigenous rocks of the Lower Devonian Fortin Group. The southern domain is comprised of the Upper Ordovician to lowermost Silurian fine-grained siliciclastic and carbonate facies of the Honorat and Matapedia groups. Airborne C-HH SAR and low resolution airborne magnetic data were integrated in order to improve the geologic understanding of the area and to produce new interpretation of the geological map. The radar data were gathered in October 1990, using the Convair 580 operated by the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing. The data were acquired in wide swath mode (60 km wide) along a NE flight line, looking southeast, with a nominal resolution of 10m in azimuth and 20m in range. The data were geometrically corrected to fit a UTM map projection, using ground control points identified from 1:50 000 scale topographic maps. The low resolution magnetic data.
