The idea behind ocean sequestration of CO_2 is to reduce the peak atmospheric CO_2 concentration by injecting the wate CO_2 from large sources directly into the ocean. Since liquid CO_2 is less dense than seawater above a depth of about 3000 meters, injection of CO_2 as droplets will generate a rising droplet plume that will gradually increase the CO_2 concentration of the entrained seawater. This CO_2 enriched water will become heavier and therefor tends to sink. So far bulk models have been used to model these droplet plumes. Thdy do not model the CO_2 enriched water after it leaves the plume, hence canot predict the final depth of the low pH water. In this study a two-phase model has been used to simultaneously model the droplets and the seawater.
