In this paper, an experimental study with PDA was conducted to study the flowfield characteristics of burner region in the tangentially fired furnace that adopts the arrangement of burners in six corners. The measurement of the flowfield and concentrationfield in burner region shows this type of arrangement of burners leads to a long-and-thin oval rotation flow pattern. Profound different jet strengths are found in the different corners. The main vortex flow rotates weakly and reduces quickly, especially in the top of burner region. In the corner, there are secondary vortexs and wake flows that have high particulate concentration, and they consume much energy flux and momentum flux. In view of the flowfield structure, the reason why slags heavily in the exit of furnace and high temperature super-heater is analyzed.
