So far we know little about the mechanism of osteoporotic fracture healing, the efficacy of treatment is limited, and the incidence ofrefracture remains high. Previous studies showed that the osteoinductive capacity of demineralized bone matrix was reported to decrease with age and to be depressed in postmenopausal rats. The decrease of estrogen could lead to "uncoupling" of osteoblastic and osteoclastic functions and corresponding metabolic abnormality. All these might have an influence on fracture healing to a certain degree. Moreover, previous reprots showed that Growth Hormone (GH) could stimulate the general fracrture healing, but the increase of age and decline of estrogen could induce the decrease of GH secretion.
