Sb-Nb-V composite oxides were investigated for the ammoxidation of propane to acrylonitrile.The catalytic activity of SbNbO_4 being isostructural to the alpha -Sb_2O_4 was very low.However, SbNbO_4 containing vanadium (V~4+) dissolved in the solid solution showed an increased catalytic activity and enhanced selectivity for acrylonitrile.The ammoxidation of propane is supposedly carried out on the cheavage of the [010] plane that is constructed with coordination-unsaturated Nb~5+ ions and bouble-bond oxygen ions combined with Sb~5+ ions created by substitution of V~4+_ ions for Nb~5+ ions.
