This paper presents an experimental study of the three dimensional flow field in a two-stage low speed axial flow turbine. The investigation is aimed at understanding the complex flow that occurs in such a multi-stage environment.The air-driven turbine operates at low Mach number and exhibits the great advantage of being relatively large in dimensions. This enables very detailed five hole probe measurements to be taken behind each blade row. The turbine is equipped with prismatic(cylindrical) blading typical for reaction steam turbines.First, a description of the test facility including instrumentation is given. Then, five hole probe measurements behind each blade row are presented and discussed with particular reference to the differences that were observed between the flow fields inthe first and second stage respectively.
