摘要

A significant milestone towards the successful application of friction stir welding prior to a special spinforming process has been achieved. The specific weld seam properties needed for the following process steps were improved for high-strength aluminum alloys AA 2219 and AA 2195. With these fundamentals spherical domes used in fuel tanks could be manufactured; the paper deals with the specific steps of the production process and the influence of the friction stir welding tool and the related process parameters on the properties of the weld seam. The results of the development work are verified by the production of a spinformed dome.
