Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging is a tomographic modality that experienced a tremendous development since its beginning, twenty years ago. It has the advantage of imaging the arterial wall and therefore of compensating for the limitationsof angiography. Phantoms, which are objects of known dimensions, utilized under controlled conditions, are required to verify calibration and to validate segmentation and tissue characterization algorithms. The aim of the present study is develop andvalidate a three-layer phantom.
