Previous modeling of the melt conductivity of waste glasses has shown that there is a good correlation between total alkali content and melt conductivity for a wide range of multi-component glasses. These data suggest that factors which often complicate the prediction of melt conductivity, such as the mixed alkali effect, do not dominate the prediction of melt conductivity of multicomponent glass systems. The correlation formed between melt conductivity and total alkali content was then used to predict new waste glass formulations.
