This paper presents a method of achieving high mission reliability with a COTS (Commercial Off-the-Shelf) based system in a military environment. Reliability of COTS as compared to milspec components and systems is the major issue encountered in military applications. The severity of the problem depends on the operational environment and mission profile. This paper presents the design analysis and trade studies employed to develop a flight critical COTS based system.
