Since accurate, low loss and short delay elements can be obtained by using an optical fiber, optical delayline signal processing has attracted much attention for high-speed and broadband signal processing. The advent of fiber amplifiers has developed new prospects for signal processing uning optical delay lines. Optical transversal filters using fiber amplifiers have been proposed and emonstrated. However, many fiber amplifiers are used to realize optical fiber filters. Fiber amplifiers are difficult to handle and are still expensive. In this paper, we consider an optical transversal filter that uses only one fiber amplifier. We discuss how to design the optical transversal filte and we also present some applications using this optical fiber filter.
