DepoFoam~(TM) technology is a multivesicular lipid-based sustained- release system for the delivery of a wide range of therapeutics such as proteins and peptides. It is composed of multiple non-concentric encapsulated aqueous chambers containing "drug", and bounded by a network of lipid membranes. Scanning EM picture of a Depofoam particle is shown in figure 1. DepoFoam particles are made by forming a water-in-oil-in- water (WOW) double emulsion composed of drug in aqueous solution, and various lipids in organic solvent, which after organic solvent removal yields drug containing DepoFoam particles. DepoFoam particles are spherical, and can be made in size from 1-100#mu#m in diameter. The typical size range for DepoFoam containing proteins and peptides is 10-30#mu#m in diameter.
