Are there any specific enhancers to increase skin penetration of either lipophilic or hydrophilic drugs?

The interest in skin permeation enhancers has blossomed, as a result of development in Transdermal Delivery Systems (TDS). The effect and mechanism of many potent enhancers; Azone~circle R, monoterpens, alkyl esters, fatty acids and alcohols were evaluated. The potency of enhancers may be different depending upon the physicochemical properties (lipophilicity, molecule weight) of drugs selected. No or little study on the detail relation between the enhancer effect and drug properties, however, has been done yet.
