The authors have studied and developed signal responsive controlled release systems, in which porous polymeric membranes such as PET(polyethylene terephthalate) were gated with signal responsive hydrogels as molecular sensoractuator gates. Then, pH, sbstrate compound, Ca~(2+), light and electric field-responsive drug release systems ahve been constructed and proved practically to act the intelligent release functions. However, the hitherto studied techniques were limited to the only use of PET base membrane and the general availability of other porous films and various rsponsive hydrogels for the systems has not been clarified so widely. In this report, some new porous membranes such as milipore, cellulose and PVA were used and investigated as base films. Various signal responsive hydrogels which responded to ions, solvents and chelate complex formation were also investigated for the sensoractuator gates in this study.
