During the last several decades the surface frictional processes in the shear-free convective boundary layer (CBL) are onsidered conceptually in hte spirit of the Prandtal (1932) theory of free ocnvection,implyign the ideas of (i) universal chaotic turbulence and (ii)local correspondence between turbulent fluxeds and mean gradients.Accordingly the fluxes of heat and water vapour in hte atmospheric surfac elayer are parameterized disresgarding gross feateures fo the CBL.Coventional practical tools are either the Monin Obukhov similariyt theory or simple downgradient turbulence closure models.
