Laboratory investigations have been undertaken to simulate the process of oil-mineral interaction at sea. The marine simulation tests support the hypothesis that the rate determikning s pep is the initial formation of oil droplets by natural dispersion. The minerals do, however, prevent re-coalescence of dispersed oil droplets.
