Postural sway secondary to adjustment of balance in patients with idiopathic scoliosis is well documented. While Moire photography and Raster stereography have been introduced to assess the back contour of scoliotic patients, no studies using motion analysis system are reported to investigate the effects of postural sway on back shape. In this studying the Quantec spinal image system (QSIS) was used to record spinal deformity. Our study showed that the Quantec spinal image system is sensitive to changes in 3-D trunk position. As a conclusion, we note the need to constrain trunk position to assure reliable measurements.
