The paper presents a joint research made by theSiberian State Academy for Mining and Metallurgy and theInstitute of Metallurgy and Concentration of the NationalAcademy of Sciences, Kazakhstan, on separation of aluminumoxide from ash and slag of Kuzbass thermal power plants. Thiswork is an integral part of 'The Development of a Technologyfor Deep Processing of Waste from Thermal Power Plants andSteel Plants" carried out in accordance with the programenvironment protection. A lime-free technology of extractionand concentration of high-silica aluminum raw materials bymeans of alkaline solution has been developed. A solid residueof a chemical concentration is a product which may beprocessed into alumina. This product contains up to 45 to 50percent Al_2O_3 versus 25 to 28 percent for initial rawmaterials. The concentrate with an increased content ofaluminum oxide can be processed either means of caking orhydrochemically. After the chemical concentration, the silicon-alkaline solution is supposed to be processed into silicateproducts such as cement, zeolite, silicate glass, soda.
