In this study, we attempted to implant hydroxyapatite granules into the superplastic Ti-4.5Al-3V-2Fe-2Mo substrate. In order to improve the biocompatibility of the alloy, pure titanium film was coated on the surface by reactive DC sputtering method in advance. The coated film was approximately 3 mu m in thickness. Hydroxyapatite granules in 32-38 mu m diameter were spread over the substrate and pressed to implant the granules into the substrate. This was achieved at 750 deg C or 800 deg C, 17 MPa for 10 min.
