A series of membranes have been produced by UV-induced polymerization of 4-vinylpridine containing varying amounts of divinylbenzene, within the pores of a polypropylene microfiltration base membrane using methods described previously (1,2). The membranes were fully characterized in terms of their ion exchange capacity, water content, thickness and mass gain. The relationship of mass gain and crosslinking to water content, ion exchange capacity and membrane thickness will be discussed.
