This paper describes a process for separating aseous olefin/paraffin mixtures by means of a large-scale membrane permabsorber (liquid-membrane contactor) comprising hydrocarbon-stable composite asymmetric nonporous gas-separation flat-sheet membranes made from the PDMS/PPSQ copolymer, poly(dimethylsiloxne)/poly(phenylsilsesquioxane) which has a high permeability for hydrocarbons, and a flowing-aqueous solution of silver nitrate as a selective absorbent for ethylene. Experimental studies were made of the dependence of the membrane contactor productivity and selectivity on the liquid flow-rate, on the concentration of silver nitrate in the water, on the temperature of the flowing liquid and on the total surface area of the membrane in the desorber module.
