For measuring the beam diameter of a point focusing immersion probe, the technique of the use of an edge of a thin shim as reflector was investigated by means of calculations and experiments. As a consequence, it was found that this technique isan extremely useful method enabling with sufficient accuracy for practical use, the measurement of directivity and beam diameter. Furthermore, its signal-to-noise ratio was favorable since the echo heights were high.
