The recent advances in the Digital Signal Processor's architecture, with the inclusion of high-performance on-chip peripherals, provide a flexible approach for the realization of multi-DSP platforms. This paper refers to the development of such a platform, suitable for the implementation of a large variety of high-computational power signal processing algorithms and systems, especially in audio applications. The architecture of the platform offers an expandable distributed configuration and allows the user to modify the hardware according to the desired processing power, so as to achieve the minimum cost/performance ratio. The distributed architecture is configured in a linear array structure (or ring) of processing modules, thus providing a simple methodology for the realization of software pipeline techniques.
