Hydrochemical evidence for the existence of perched water at USW WT -24,Yucca Mountain,nevada

The elevation of the potentiometric surface and hte presence of perched water in the large hydraulic gradient area (between boreholes USW G-2 and USW H-1) north of the potential repository are issues under investigation within the Yucca Mountain Site Characterization program.Borehole USW WT -24 (WT-24) is being drilled about 0.8 km southeast of USW G-2(G-2) and is being tested to aid in the identification of perched-water zones,determine the elevation of the potentiometric surface,obtain hydraulic properties of water bearing formations,and characterize the chemical composition of water from both perched and saturated zones.
