Innovative approach to liquid hlrw tank closure at doe's savannah river site

This paper briefly discusses some of the regulatory and technical highlights associated with the successes of the SRS HLW tank closure program.The poster session on this topic will provide detailed information on the specific technologies used for removing the high level waste from the tanks,rinsing and cleaning the tanks,formulating the chemically reducing grout to be placed into the tanks,preparing the tank for closure,and filling the tanks with stabilizing grout material.Also,discussed in the poster session will be the unique regulatory process neotiated with EPA and the state of South Carolina which has resulted in the only approved closure plan and process for HLW tanks in the nation.
