Encapsulation of spent nuclear fuel in copper canisters

In Sweden,spent nuclear fuel will be encapsulated in disposal canisters before deposition in a deep repository.Each canister consists of an outer copper canister for corrosion resistance and a cast iron insert for mechanical strength.Trial manufacturing has shown that full-size disposal canisters can be produced according to specifications.
