A rolling method to increase the width ofmaterials would have advantages in multi-width stripproduction, giving high yield efficiency and productivity.Texture or planar anisotropy of materials also can be controlledby the method. However, it is very difficult to producetransverse metal flow in thin strips. The authors have suggesteda new method for spread rolling of thin strip. The methodemploys multi-pass caliber rolling, where several Portions ofthe width are reduced. The method is further improved in thisstudy and has applied to aluminum strips. ft is found that thin1mm thick and 70mm wide aluminum strips are widened up to6 percent by 58 percent-reduction rolling. As for themechanical properties of rolled strips, the Spread strips areslightly more work-hardened than the flat strips. Developmentof the rolling texture is not so remarkable in the spread strips asthat in the flat-rolled strips. As a result, the result, therecrystallization texture is not well developed in the annealedspread strips. It is also found that the planar anisotropy ofmechanical properties, r-value in particular, of the spread stripsare smaller than that of the flat-rolled strips. It is concludedthat the proposed spread rolling method can control the textureas well as the width of rolled strips.
