The thermotolerant mucoralean strain Rhizomucor pusillus RM7 and the white-rot fungus Trametes nivosa 208 were tested for their ability to bioremediate the effluent from the alkali extraction stage (E_O) of a bleach plant with emphasis on color reduction. A number of factors, which many influence color reduction, have been studied: time; pH; temperature; additives; effluent presterilisation; aeration; dilution; biomass dose and age.
