This paper focusses on steady-state results obtained for high-rate copper dissolution in 1M hydrochloric acid solution.With the rotating ring-disk electrode, it was shown that the cuprous species is always formed and the corresponding current value is independent of the potential. Then, the overall current density measured with the rotating disk electrode was analysed. The current corresponding to cupric ion formation has been deduced. According to the potential, a maximum current density is obtained for a given rotation rate. This behaviour is attributed, in agreement with the results obtained previously by ac and EHD impedances, to a transition between the presence or the absence of a CuCl salt layer covering the surface. Models are developed to obtain expressions for the cupric current density with and without a salt layer. The experimental results are in good agreement with the expressions obtained.
