This paper describes a Web based instruction environment, which supports the leamingware concept and was conceived of a transition model from traditional classroom to virtual classroom. Main characteristics of the traditional learning process are presented and faced to a new environment called virtual classroom that has the Web as background. The Web-based instruction (WBI) is introduced and analysed from the viewpoint of the two most expressive instructional design schools: the Objectivism and the Constructivism schools. It also describes AulaNet~(™), a system developed at the Software Engineering Laboratory of Computer Science Department of PUC-Rio, the Catholic University at Rio de Janeiro.
