The purpose of this study is to investigate bubble trap performance (BTP) of a membrane oxygenator. Embolization by gas bubbles is one of the potential hazards associated with extracorporeal circulation during cardiopulamonary surgery. To decrease this risk, the arterial line filter was used to be an additional safeguard against the release of bubbles or particles since using bubble oxygenator. On the other hand, hollow fiber membrane type oxygenator is very common in the clinical application. The hollow fibers of these oxygenators are cross wounded or woven together. We suggest that these fiber stuctures can be treated as a bubble filter which has a filtration function such as arterial line filter.
