This paper aims to propose a new vibration method in which a horizontal oscillator was used on a tracked vehicle to increase compaction efficiency of high lifted sandy soil. The experiment was conducted to identify the optimum frequency by increasing the frequency of the horizontal exciting force of 9.8 kN from 16 to 51 Hz of a vibrating compactor by use of two eccentric cyclic masses. In the vibro-compaction tests, the amount of depression of the ground surface, the dry density distribution in depth using cone penetrometer, the normal earth pressure distribution in depth using soil stress transducer, and the vertical and horizontal acceleration distribution in depth were measured. The effects of the tracked vehicle mounted with a horizontal oscillator were considered for various frequencies. As a result, the amount of maximum depression of the ground surface and the amount of maximum dry density was obtained at the frequency of 16 Hz for final stage of vibration of N = 13.
