Pyrochemical Reprocessing of Irradiated Mixed Oxide Fuel in Molten Salts

The experiment showed a real possibility of pyroelectrochemical technology to be created for oxide nuclear fuel reprocessing. Today SSC RF RIAR is continuing the investigations on the MOX-fuel pyrochemical reprocessing technology. The preparation of the new experiment was started in 1996. The process of the direct electrochemical conversion of spent MOX-fuel into codeposited mixed uranium-plutonium oxide fuel, suitable for the further reactor irradiation, will be tested. At present a large variety of the fuel compositions intended for thedecision of problems on safety and economical efficiency of nuclear-power plants and atomic industry as a whole, as far as its wastes and most dangerous secondary products removal are under consideration. In this connection SSC RIAR analyzes steadily the opportunity of pyroelectrochemical technology for the decision of new problems as well as plans and carries out search investigations.
