Fossil energy consumption and the atmosphericenvironmental problems are closely related leading togetherwith various recent weather phenomena such as the climatechange, global warming, greenhouse effect and atmosphericpollution. Accumulation of harmful emissions from the fossilfuels such as coal and oil causes increase in carbon dioxidelevels in the atmosphere which shield the long wave solarirradiation from the earth to outer space and consequently thetemperature within the atmospheric layer increases giving rise toexpected global warming and many long term undesirabledisastrous events such as droughts, floods, the sea level rises asa result of polar ice melting, shifts of tropical belts towards thepolar regions, undulation of low lying lands in addition to manyother social effects. In order to reduce these undesirable effects,the atmosphere as a common property of all the world, must beprotected jointly by all the countries. Hence, each country mustcontribute her share by reducing the use of fossil fuels with thereplacement of environment friendly renewable energyresources such as solar, solar-hydrogen, wind and hydropower.In order to know the right for a country to defend herself forfuture accusations of atmospheric environmental pollution shemust know and set up policies as her energy consumption levelsand renewable energy potentials. This paper presents generalaccount of fossil fuel usage consequences in the atmosphere.
