Temperature records are among the mostimportant indicators of energy consumption for cooling duringhot spells and for heating during cold spells. In this paper, thebase temperature for heating is taken as 15 deg C. Along a givenbase level there are alternatively heating and cooling dayperiods. On the other hand, the summation of heating degree-days over a heating degree-day period is cumulative heatingdegree-days. It is possible to find the statistical parameters suchas the arithmetic average, standard deviation, histogram etc. ofeach degree day feature. These parameters are related to energyconsumption. Degree-day concept has been applied to 255 sitesleading to maps but six major cities are exposed in detail inTurkey and the heating degree-day amounts are calculated. Themore the degree-day the more the energy consumption. Hence,degree-day amounts indicate energy consumption levels.
