A series of systematic adsorption tests areconducted to understand the ability of metal cations and cationicsurfactants to adsorb onto sepiolite. Tests conducted as afunction of solids concentration, conditioning time and reagentconcentration indicate that sepiolite is highly receptive to theadsorption of both organic and inorganic ions. An ion exchangemechanism is proposed to explain the incorporation of cationsinto the structure of sepiolite.
