This paper summarizes the state-of-the-art in modeling bubble column hydrodynamics at Twente University. The 'hierarchy of models' concept that addresses bubble column hydrodynamics at three different levels will be discussed. A volume-trackingmodel and a discrete bubble model will be presented and results obtained with these models will be discussed. The need for detailed model validation of CFD results will be emphasized.
