The concept of wet white pretanning as an environmentally friendly chrome-free technique has been with us for some time. It was first recommended as long ago as the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Since its initial introduction to the leathe industry, a number of chemical companies have developed materials for use as pretanning agents. Despite numerous development programs by both independent research units and chemical companies, however, the concept has never reached its full potential. This paper briefly reviews the concept of the wet white principle as an environmentally friendly technique and lays out the nonchrome tanning process of split leather using aluminium, zirconium and aldehyde tanning agent as the nonchrome mineral and polymer materials. The purpose of this paper is to develop the preparation method of non-chrome tanned leather with wet white of split leather. In conclusion, shrinkage temperature of nonchrome tanned split leather can be improved by the use of active binding materials. The surface of the aluminium tanned leather is clearly lighter and whiter. Also, non-chrome mineral tanned leather gives a more plastic and less leathery feel.
