Cellular automata cna model naturla phenomena on many differnet levles of detail.oftne,one sepcific level of detial is appropriate rfor the porblem under investigation.But in some ases a coneciton between the different levels of detail is necessary.one such scase is the catalytic reaciton on a surface.The homogeneous crysttallographic surfgace can rasonbably well be described by meaoscopic approaches,but in the poresence of defects,a microsocopic simulation (where each site of the crystall lattice is individually represented) is necessary.In this paper we present a frameork for coupling differnt types of clelular automata to achive an efficient simulaiton which is nevertheless detailed enough to resolve microsocopic phenomena where encessary.
